He is Soul Snatcha, He is one half of the hip-hop duo, Rooftop MCs. He does a lot of stuffs outside music. In this exclusive interview with AB, he talks of his music, his multitasking nature, his love for Zobo and more. Enjoy!
Snatcha, what is your real name and where are you from?
I am Adekunle Adeyoola and I’m surprisingly Nigerian. (Laughs)
Can you let us in a little on your educational background?
I attended Floral Nursery and Primary school, Federal Government College Ogbomosho, UNILAG for two years, I am currently home-schooling
You belong to a group, when and how did you meet So Kleva?
I met him on the road and asked ‘guy are you busy’? He said no, then I said you go like start group? He said okay and the rest as they say is ‘his story’ but this is my story.
What genre of music does Rooftop MCs stand for as regards your versatility?
Its hip-hop but we fuse it with a bit of rock and whatever else we can find.
The Shock Therapy album was a pleasant ‘shock’ to music lovers nationwide. How difficult was it coping with the fame that album brought you?
It was hard. There was the money, the women and all. God never let us go, we used to say a prayer that the moment we put material things in the place of God in our lives, He should warn us and if we don’t listen, He should take those things away. That’s the ‘Lagimo effect’
With a large and expectant fan base looking on, what new projects do we expect from Da Rooftop MCs?
We are at the moment listening to God for direction and word concerning the 5th album and direction of the band
As an artiste, what moment has been the most embarrassing for you?
I’m not sure I have had any embarrassing moment. I hardly get embarrassed
Most Nigerian musicians claim to have birthed their careers from the church, were you ever a chorister or instrumentalist too?
Nah! I actually started outside the church, I got born again and decided to use the gift for the kingdom
Should we expect a group split from Rooftop MCs in years to come?
Would you like that? It seems like you would. Well, we have been together for 12years, that’s a bit of a record. As long as He has not told us to split we won’t.
If you must feature just one Nigerian musician on your album, who will that be and why?
Omo! dem plenty.
What’s your favourite drink?
My wife’s home-made zobo
I have seen you on one or two TV adverts just as I have seen you on one or two soap operas. How do you combine all these with your music?
I do music, public speaking, acting (stage and TV), standup comedy, radio and TV shows, photography, clothing company and more. Let’s just say I’m one of ‘the few’
How do you think the piracy scourge can be curtailed?
It can’t be eradicated but it can be curbed but due to limited time, I can’t go into details
So many young musicians are cropping up by the moment, what advice do you have for them?
If you can’t be the best at it, leave it alone
Where do you see Rooftop MCs in five years?
I will have to ask Infinity, they can see the future (General laughter). Don’t be in a hurry you will know when the time comes
Thanks for your time bro
You are welcome.
